Something Wicked Sound Clash: Deorro, Cookie Monsta

Something Wicked is just around the corner. Soon, we will be gathering at the Sam Houston Race Park to celebrate All Hallows Eve. Have all you ghouls and goblins bought your tickets yet?

In this edition of our Sound Clash, the #PandaFam meets a Circus Monsta. Though one artist is known for their progressive electro cocktail and the other for his filthy take on bass music, we couldn’t be more excited to see Deorro and Cookie Monsta when the perform at the 2013 edition of Something Wicked.

Deorro

artist deorroFor Deorro, the progression to world-famous DJ was natural, “I started playing the drums and guitar. I had an old computer and I installed a free software so I could start making some beats. From there I went with my dad to DJ at some parties and weddings. Kids really like how I mixed music for ‘young people’ and they started to hire me for their parties! I liked a lot how people dance with music so I started to make similar music and I uploaded it to Soundcloud and suddenly I was playing in Florida, Australia. It was a blast! It all grew very fast but I have a lot of people that support me and students that trust me.”

Formerly known to the world as Ton!c, Los Angeles native Deorro has been releasing quality Dutch/electro bangers for quite some time now. Though his major releases as Toni!c date back to 2011, the world came to love the name Deorro for tracks like “The Disco Donnie” and “Queef” which showcase his perfect fusion of progressive and electro dutch sounds.

The Wicked talent (and panda bear lover) has quickly turned into one of the fastest rising talents in the dance music industry. Releasing some huge dance floor fillers that are influenced by drumstep, house, trance, heavy electro, and even some moombahcore elements. One of the things we love most, is that Deorro creates a sound that is uniquely his own. You can join the #PandaFam when Deorro comes to Houston for the return of Something Wicked on Saturday, October 256th. Tickets are available online, purchase yours today!

Cookie Monsta

artist cookie monstaAlthough he’s not the most well known on the UK imprint Circus Records, Cookie Monsta is one of the most talented producers on the roster. His filthy productions have been known to make you want to rage and fill your heart’s womp desires, packing a perfect formula of in-your-face snares, earth-shattering bass and unbelievably dirty synths.

As a young Monsta, Tony Cook spent hours on his brother’s Playstation creating sounds on the program Music 2000. Always attracted to the dirtier sides of music, Cook began to make dubstep-style tunes and random beats with a grime sound. After meeting Flux Pavilion, Cook went on to release his debut in 2010 with the Ginger Pubes/Blurgh! EP. “Ginger Pubes” became an anthem on dance floors all over the world and it wasn’t long before Cookie Monsta was performing on stages around the globe.

Cook followed the success of his first release with the Riot! EP. The title track sets the tone of the extended player with ominous soundscapes and energetic builds. The second track, “Level Up,” is the perfect title for the melody made of 8-bit synths and samples from classic 90s games like Super Mario Brothers and Mortal Kombat. The EP also shows the Wicked talent exploring drum and bass influences, often pushing the tempo and then slowing it back down down. As a whole, the release just oozes grime and reminds us that the filth style doesn’t have to sound muddy.

His latest project is a mega 26-track album presented with FuntCase called Circus Two. Featuring releases from Brown & Gammon, Doctor P, Flux Pavilion, Mizuki and many more, the release is heaven for bass lovers obsessed with heavy drops and the maximum amount of filth and grime.

We are certainly ready for the wicked sounds that Cookie Monsta will bring when he performs at Houston’s Something Wicked on Saturday, October 26th. Buy your tickets now!

Club Cirque Drop: Crizzly remixes Jay-Z's 'Tom Ford;' Torro Torro invited to Red Bull Thre3Style World Finals

Club Cirque will be here faster than you know it, and as we countdown the days until Saturday, October 19th, we’ve got some more artist news for all you circus lovers.

On this edition of the Club Cirque Drop, we’ve got a free download of Jay-Z and some battling DJs.

Crizzly gives away his latest remix Jay-Z’s track “Tom Ford”

artist crizzlyNative Texan and crunkstepper pioneer, Crizzly has been giving fans a seemingly endless stream of free tracks recently. Known for putting his twist on hip hop smash hits, just a few days ago, the Cirque talent uploaded yet another bass-lead track with his remix of “Tom Ford” by Jay-Z. Spoiler Alert: If you were planning on taking a nap in the next 5 minutes, think again.

For his edit of “Tom Ford,” Crizzly deconstructions the original Timbaland production, bringing a provocative feeling that only crunkstep could create. With some deep, resonating 808 kicks, piercing snares, and clean hi-hats, the catchy vocals make this track a certifiable weekend anthem. And did we mention it’s free?

Club Cirque Artist Profile: Steve Aoki

artist steve aokiSteve Aoki is certainly one of the busiest men in the music industry. Label head, producer, remixer, DJ, owner of a successful clothing line and entrepreneur, you never know what this Club Cirque talent is going to do next. We just know that when this madman takes the stage, expect to see some thrown cakes, inflatable rafts over the crowd and most of all, expect to see a lot of sweating.

Steve Aoki first started putting in work as a DJ when he was a student at the University of California in Santa Barbara. Performing under the name Kid Millionaire, Steve began producing records and hosting concerts in his living room, calling the makeshift venue, the Pickle Patch. “… And the legendary house, the 6542 Sabado Tarde house. That’s where the Pickle Patch was founded. It eventually moved around, but we had At The Drive-In, !!!, The Rapture – the Pickle Patch had over 450 bands playing at all the different incarnations. We stayed there for a couple years then we moved into a frat house. We didn’t become a frat but we brought 16 kids in there, we built out a space and did shows there. Then we moved to the Biko House and we did shows there. We made the garage into a place where we could have shows.”

In 1996, now in his early 20s, Steve created the now world-famous label Dim Mak Records. Dim Mak is the Chinese form of martial arts also known as the “Death Touch.” Still pounding out releases 17 years after its inception, Dim Mak is still going on strong and known for its over-the-top showmanship, “My roots are in hardcore and punk. Before dance music I was writing for punk bands and screaming punk songs. 10 years ago, I was screaming to kids at hardcore shows and a little after that, I started to DJ. When you DJ and play others’ records, you create a story for your audience and that’s part of your job and the art of being a DJ. When I produced tunes, I brought in that aggressive nature from my earlier punk years along with showmanship. There’s a difference between producing an actual song, and making a club edit. It’s the song that I get more into when it plays live. When I play shows, its second nature to scream in the crowd and let off all that energy.”

As a producer, Steve has created a series of popular underground mix albums and tracks that have scored him success on charts around the world as well as awards from BPM Magazine and Billboard. His work as a remixer spans from names like the Jackson 5 and Lenny Kravitz, to Kanye West, Eminem and Snoop Dogg. And with his aptitude for collaborations, Steve has appeared on releases with artists like Kid Cudi, will.i.am, Afrojack, and Armand Van Helden, just to name a few.

Getting ready to bring his Aokify America Tour to Tampa on Saturday, October 19th, we’re not sure what goodies he’ll bring for his performance at Club Cirque, but what we do know is that the best way to see Steve is in person. So, have you bought your tickets yet?

There isn’t a shortage of free music on the internet – even when we don’t count all the not-so-legal stuff. So instead of searching for mixes to power through your weekend, we found a ton of free (and legal) downloads from our amazing lineup. Start downloading all you Wicked creatures, you might hear some of these tracks in two weeks.

Skrillex, 12th Planet, Kill The Noise – Right On Time (Alex Young Remix)

Warning: You’ll probably get an urge to start clapping after you hear the intro. We love this edit because it reminds us just how talented this Young one is.

Antiserum, Mayhem – Pakistan (Original Mix)

If the brash cymbals don’t wake you up, the bass on the drop certainly will. We’re not exactly sure what this song has to do with the Middle Eastern country, but the track is a banger none-the-less.

[soundcloud url=”http://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/101611411″ params=”” width=” 100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

Arnej – Adagio (Original Mix)

If you’re wondering if it’s that Adagio, you’d be correct in your assumptions. Dedicated to his father, Arnej puts his signature sound on an old favorite with this free download.

[soundcloud url=”http://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/112607318″ params=”” width=” 100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

Jay-Z – Tom Ford (Crizzly Remix)

Always adding his twist on hip hop favorites, Crizzly is back with more crunksteppin’ action on this brand new freebie.

[soundcloud url=”http://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/113944674″ params=”” width=” 100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

Mariah Carey – Touch My Body (Cyril Hahn Remix)

It’s a safe bet to say that most (if not all) Cyril Hahn tracks can be dubbed as “sexy.” This remix takes the sexy cake with a down-pitched Mariah Carey and a tempo that a couple on Valentine’s Day can appreciate.

[soundcloud url=”http://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/41709803″ params=”” width=” 100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

Deorro – Bootie In Your Face (Original Mix)

Surprisingly, not that type of booty, but bootie. Once you view the album artwork, you remember that this electro maven in a father of two. Enjoy all the bootie and one more thing – everybody rage!

[soundcloud url=”http://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/113874132″ params=”” width=” 100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

Figure – Child’s Play (Original Mix)

Just in time for the Halloween season, lover of all horror, Figure just recently gave away this track which features an awesomely creepy sample from Chuckie.

[soundcloud url=”http://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/114343369″ params=”” width=” 100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

Candyland – Bring The Rain (BUSTED By heRobust)

This mixed-meter track is busted – in a good way.

[soundcloud url=”http://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/103461953″ params=”” width=” 100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

Joel Compass – Astronaut (Henry Krinkle Remix)

Though not a certifiable “banger,” this track has a slow rise that is simply beautiful. Let this song put your mind at ease.

[soundcloud url=”http://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/107506443″ params=”” width=” 100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

Luminox – Tantrum (Original Mix)

We don’t really like tantrums – unless they have a wicked bass line that accompanies them.
