Presenting the Something Wicked Artist Schedule for the Bass Crypt Stage

October is chugging right along and before you know it, Something Wicked will be here. With less than two weeks remaining before we head out to the Sam Houston Race Park on Saturday, October 26th, we can start releasing artist schedules by stage. There will be three separate areas of sound, so we’ve made it a little easier to make sure you can catch your favorite performers!

The Bass Crypt Stage at Something Wicked, although you could guess by its name, will be roaring with both the leaders and breakout artists in today’s bass music scene. Featuring talent from around the world like HeRobust, Figure and Adventure Club, we’re excited to have our Bass Crypt acts push the limits on our speakers and subwoofers.

Club Cirque Artist Profile: Autoérotique

artist autoerotiqueAutoérotique are quite the eclectic pairing. Incorporating elements of electro, rock and even ska on some of their production, their ability to mold to any sound is quite apparent with every project they tackle. Known for transforming at from Dutch house to metal on the same record, the two Club Cirque talents have been given the loose nickname “Autobots.”

Growing up in the multi-cultural bustle of Toronto’s west end, Keith Robertson and David “Dave” Henderson have been friends from a very early age. Keith remembers, “We grew up together, we did everything together, were in the same class in the most ghetto school in Toronto, liked all the same things. It was just natural.” As they grew older, their friendship would blossom into a mutual admiration for music. First trying their hand as indie-band producers, the two made the switch to dance music after getting an epiphany while listening to Groove Armanda’s first album Northern Star at the age of 17. Shortly there after, the boys were completely engulfed in the city’s burgeoning dance scene.

Dave and Keith first broke out on the scene in 2007 with a banging electro remix of Rihanna’s hit single “Umbrella.” Known then as VNDLSM, the track was scooped up by Diplo for a mixtape giving the boys a taste of success in the music industry. With legal battles over their moniker as well as no clear direction as to where they wanted their sound to progress, the two took a step back to reevaluate. After a brief stint as producers for EMI in 2008, the group reunited again for something new.

Returning in early 2009 and signing with Dim Mak Records, their official first single “Gladiator” featured remixes by Steve Aoki, The Faint, and AC Slater. Keith says, “Well we’ve been good buddies with Steve and bunch of the people over there from way back. A lot of people were just waiting until we kind of established ourselves with the proper identity, because it was just too complicated before, we didn’t really know what we were up to. So when we finally did it was just natural, we had a bunch of tracks together and we gave them to Steve and he was just like ‘hell yeah.’ I guess basically they were waiting and, at the same time, we were kind of waiting for ourselves to get it together — but in the end that wait probably helped us come out stronger.”

February 2011 saw the release of Autoérotique’s hit debut EP, Freak, which hosted the viral banger “Turn Up The Volume” and fan favorite “Cake’splosion.” The release was loved by many different dance music fans and even inspired DJs like Joachim Garraud to remix some of its tracks.

Just recently plucked by Steve Aoki to be a part of the nationwide Aokify tour, we are excited to have the witty, charismatic duo take to the main stage for the inaugural Club Cirque in Tampa, FL on Saturday, October 19th. Tickets are still available, so grab yours today!

Something Wicked Artist Profile: Antiserum

artist antiserumAntiserum‘s roots in bass music emerged in the Bay Area, where he started to merge heavy drums, rolling bass lines with intuitive melodies. Born Mike Shumer, his tight production techniques have been inspired from a variety of styles like hip hop, funk, drum and bass and reggae. The Something Wicked artist’s live show is full of high-octane mixes and emotional progressions that gives his fans a perfect dose of bass energy.

Though dubstep is popular trend, Antiserum doesn’t get flustered by it, “Well, for starters, I don’t listen to dubstep. I feel like that’s been really helpful for me lately. I have also been eating more at the taco truck by my house, which seems to be helping my production output a lot! No joke!” His plan seems to be working. In 2008, Antiserum landed the 8th best-selling bass track on Beatport while reaching a vast global audience. His debut single “Skull Fucked” is full of dark sounds and intriguing atmospheres. After this milestone, he launched his first tour in Australia and New Zealand, exposing his music to a new fan base.

Antiserum’s artistic reach far exceeds the confines of just dance music. In 2012, the Wicked talent’s collaboration “Droid Prom” with live musician Dubsworth appeared in the opening scenes of CSI: Miami’s “Friendly Fire” episode. His list of successful collaborations doesn’t end there. A partnership with Atlanta bass music producer Mayhem “Brick Squad Anthem” got huge support from heavyweights like Skillex, Diplo, Datsik and Flux Pavilion. The track “Bass Salt” with 12th Planet was featured on Rolling Stone and releases with Smog Records and Caspa’s Dub Police imprint have established Antiserum as one of the future growing artists of sub-heavy music.

Still pounding out free remixes and originals that keep fans coming back for more, we can’t wait to see his amazing performance at Something Wicked this Saturday, October 26th. Grab your tickets today.
