Something Wicked Artist Profile: Aly & Fila

artist aly and filaThe Egyptian trance duo Aly & Fila were both born in 1981 and have known each other most of their lives. The Something Wicked duo built their first studio in 1999 where they began DJing and producing dance music. Full names Aly Amr Fathalah and Fadi Wassef Naguib, these two were initially inspired by the music of Paul Van Dyk, Steve Helstrip and Chicane. Fila says, “Actually, being born in Egypt, music is a very big thing growing up. Whether it is the oriental or Egyptian music, or the Western music. People love music in Egypt. It has a lot of meaning in the people’s lives. It was like that for Aly and me. We were growing up on music. Then we started listening to Western music when we were teenagers. People who would travel to Europe, we would get them to bring back CDs, since there was no Internet. It was very difficult to find out about electronic music. So all these people who would be coming back from Germany or England would be bringing us back CDs, so that is how we got exposed to that music.”

In 2003, Aly & Fila broke into the European market by signing with the German record label, Euphonic Records. Their first release “Eye of Hours” received the support from renowned artists like Armin Van Buuren, Tiësto and Paul Van Dyk. The track was eventually licensed to Fundamental Recordings and increased the boys’ exposure by climbing to the #4 position on the Dutch dance charts.

Subsequently launching their first label named Offshore after meeting Swiss producer Andy Prinz in 2009, they released their first single “Spirit of Ka,” which made its way onto numerous radio shows. The high-energy purveyors are no strangers to radio as the two host an internet show of their own every Monday called Future Sound of Egypt, showcasing their favorite upcoming talents from home.

Currently, the boys are celebrating their latest collaboration “Vapourize” with John O’Callaghan, which has already been deemed a Beatport “slam-dunk.” We can’t wait to hear the future sounds of Egypt when Aly & Fila take the stage on Saturday, October 26th for Something Wicked 2013. Monster Block Party Artist Profile: Borgore

artist borgoreMonster Block Party talent Asaf Borger has come a long way from his home in Tel Aviv, Israel. Professionally known as Borgore, his roots in bass music were influenced by triplet drum patterns and heavy metal. The artist describes his music as “Gorestep,” incorporating sounds that are related to horror movies, farm animals and sex. As a trained musician and drummer, 26-year old Borgore has always had a leg up for the competition. “My music sounds like commercial American hip hop and death metal being played through various farm animals.”

Borgore got involved in music at very young age. He started playing piano at the age of three, moving onto the saxophone and drums throughout most of his formative years. The producer got his feet wet in the music industry before his 21st birthday as a drummer in the Israeli death metal band Shabira. This experience helped his sound in the long run, creating a unique style that would proclaim him as the “Ruiner of Dubstep.”

The world was first introduced to Borgore with his mixtape release Gorestep Vol. 1, which featured the underground classic “Love.” Audiences loved the track for its somewhat questionable lyrics and heavy dubstep sound that made it relatable to fans of hip hop and UK electro.

Every year since his first release, Borgore’s popularity has continued on an upward incline. The viral success of his one of his latest singles “Decisions” features Miley Cyrus and has given him even more international exposure than before. He followed the success of “Decisions” with “Incredible,” a collaboration with Carnage. Out on Spinnin’ Records, the single hit #1 on Beatport and quickly became a staple of this year’s Miami Music Conference.

Borgore’s live shows are exceptional, incorporating pole dancers in his production and dubbing his music as sexy. “Girls love my music: I had 40 girls dancing onstage with me at a recent show.” Currently working with Steve Aoki to release a new album for the Aokify America Tour, we are excited to welcome Borgore to the Monster Block Party in Nashville on Saturday, October 26th. Grab your tickets today before it’s too late.

Dance Responsibly at Club Cirque

To all our wonderful guests and friends in the music festival community: We want you to dance and play, enjoy the music and the experience. But please take care of yourselves and each other.

Guests at our events often enjoy vigorous physical activity including dancing; people will sometimes get sick from overheating and dehydration. Drinking lots of water has always been encouraged, and drinking water is good…But, be aware that drinking too much plain water can be dangerous!

Some of the illness and deaths surrounding music events have been associated with low levels of electrolytes that are lost along with water when one becomes dehydrated. Such low levels of electrolytes, especially salt, can lead to brain swelling, seizures, heart problems and even death.

Like athletes in sporting events, your body needs to replace the minerals AND the water it is losing in sweat. Sports drinks containing electrolytes (for example Gatorade and Powerade) provide these essential electrolytes and should supplement the water you drink to rehydrate.

Some drugs like MDMA (Molly, ecstasy….) can make the low electrolyte level worse and increase your chances of harm. The Club Cirque does not endorse or condone their use, but if you or someone around you needs help and has taken something that you are concerned about, it is important that you tell our staff. We are here to help and never judge.

As part of our ongoing efforts to make your concert experience as safe and enjoyable as possible, Club Cirque will be making every effort to provide electrolyte-supplemented rehydration drinks available to our guests. They will also be available in our medical tents as part of our first-aid treatment.

Please remember that Club Cirque considers all of our music fans as guests at our events, and will always do everything we can to provide an enjoyable and safe experience. Never hesitate to reach out to us with any questions or concerns you may have at our events.
